My Pilates journey started a few years ago, it has been a personal discovery on so many levels and an amazing experience.

I have always been an active individual and enjoyed many forms of exercise, because of some of my exercise choices I began to suffer with a few injuries, I decided I needed to find an exercise that was kinder to my body, could help with injury prevention and complement my existing training schedule.

My First Ever Pilates Class

From my very first Pilates session, I was hooked. I came away from the class feeling I had worked hard but with a sense of calm. I enjoyed the slower pace of Pilates, enabling me to connect the body and mind, to focus on exactly what was being asked of my body and having the opportunity to concentrate on technique.  I signed up to regular Pilates classes, the results were very quickly evident, my flexibility, stability and core strength improved in no time.

Training to be a Pilates Instructor

I decided to take my love of Pilates to a different level and embarked on a training course to become a Pilates Instructor.

Whilst the course was challenging and time-consuming, I found the theory aspect fascinating, learning about the human body in detail.

The practical side of the training challenged my mind and body further, trying to perfect the exercises in the repertoire was no mean feat!

The training pushed me out of my comfort zone, finding the confidence to stand in front of a class of people and teach, initially terrified me but with support, perseverance and determination, I got through it.  I am proud to say I am now a qualified Level 3 Mat Pilates Instructor and enjoying every minute.

The Real Learning

Like passing your driving test, the real learning begins when you leave the security of your instructor behind and venture out on your own!  Completing the course gave me the education and tools required, but not the experience.  I started covering for Pilates instructors during holiday periods, this was a great opportunity to gain some experience with clients that already had experience of Pilates and I didn’t have to stress about finding my own clients.

I soon decided to start my own class and hired the Dance Studio at Wootton Upper School once a week for a mixed ability class.  Whilst this has gone reasonably well, I was limited to the times the studio was available for hire.

New Studio

I didn’t want to be beholden to hiring halls and the restraints this imposes.  So, I have had a purpose built, fully equipped Pilates Studio built at my home.  Classes are no more than 5 people enabling that individual attention, friendly atmosphere and flexibility to offer various classes.

Looking to the Future

I look forward to being able to share my enthusiasm for Pilates through teaching. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to make a difference to the general wellbeing and physical fitness of the individuals wishing to attend Pilates classes, it is a truly amazing exercise that has so many benefits and can be adapted to suit all individuals.

I look forward to continuing to learn and develop as an instructor.
